Kerry was born in Los Angeles while his father was attending the University of Southern California. His father was from St. George, UT and his mother was from Washington, UT. After his father’s graduation, his family moved back to St George when he was three months old.
Kerry has been a St. George local ever since. Kerry served a mission in the Northern Indian Mission (North and South Dakota) and attended Dixie High School, Dixie College as well as the University of Utah. Kerry married Barbara Muir, the love of his life, October 11, 1974. He currently has four kids, all of which are married, and has 12 grandchildren.
Our founder, Kerry Johnson, worked as an electrician from 1974 until 1984, when he started the company. He has worked for numerous contractors: Wilkinson Electric, Brinton Electric and a number of others.
When Kerry started the company in 1984, his wife Barb would help with the billing and bookkeeping. Kerry would work all day and bid jobs in the evening. The company grew to a maximum of about 120 employees from 1994-1996. Kerry then gradually downsized and decided to concentrate on niche markets: solar PV, traffic signals, highway lighting, and electrical utilities. All of which has now come full circle, as KV Electric now operates commercial, residential, as well as those niche markets.
